Trauma-Informed Counselling in Armidale & Tamworth NSW
Trauma-informed does not mean you will be asked to describe the worst thing that has happened to you. It means the work is built around the fact that something did, and that being pushed to relive it can do more harm than good. You decide what gets talked about, and when.
What trauma-informed support helps with
- Events that still intrude long after they ended
- Feeling permanently on alert, or numb and disconnected
- Sleep disruption and nightmares
- Avoiding places, people, or conversations
- Childhood experiences that keep shaping adult relationships
- Reactions that feel out of proportion to what triggered them
What to expect
Early sessions focus on stability and safety rather than on the events themselves, so that you have somewhere solid to stand before anything difficult gets touched. Nothing is forced. If a session is heading somewhere you are not ready for, saying so is not a setback, it is the process working properly.

Questions about trauma-informed support
Will I have to talk about what happened?
Not unless and until you want to. A great deal of useful work happens without a detailed account of events. Diane follows your lead on what is discussed and how far it goes.
What if I become distressed during a session?
Sessions are paced to reduce that risk, and time is left at the end to settle before you leave or log off. If something does surface, Diane will slow down and help you steady rather than pressing on.
Is Change Play a crisis service?
No. Change Play provides scheduled counselling appointments, not emergency or after-hours crisis care. If you are in immediate danger, call 000. For 24/7 support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or the Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467.
