Family Counselling in Armidale, Tamworth & Online

Families rarely come to counselling because of one argument. They come because the same argument keeps happening, because someone has stopped talking, or because a change nobody chose has left everyone in a different position. Family counselling gives that conversation a room, a structure, and someone impartial in it.

What family counselling helps with

  • Conflict between parents and teenagers that keeps escalating
  • Separation and divorce, and co-parenting afterwards
  • Blended families finding new roles and boundaries
  • Sibling conflict that has become entrenched
  • A family adjusting after illness, death, or a major move
  • Communication that has narrowed down to logistics or silence

What to expect

Who attends is decided case by case. Sometimes the whole family is in the room; sometimes Diane sees people separately first and brings them together later. The aim is not to establish who is right. It is to get each person heard accurately by the others, which is usually the step that has gone missing.

Questions about family counselling

Does the whole family have to come?

No. Useful work often starts with one or two people. Some families begin with the parents alone, or with the person feeling the strain most, and widen from there. Diane will talk through who it makes sense to include and when.

Will you take sides?

No. Diane works for the family rather than for any one member of it. That means everyone gets heard properly, including the person who is finding it hardest to explain themselves.

Can teenagers attend without their parents in the room?

Yes, and it is often the right call. Young people frequently say things one-to-one that they will not say in front of a parent. Diane will be clear with everyone from the start about what is kept private and what is shared.
