Grief & Loss Counselling in Armidale, Tamworth & Online

Grief has a short public life and a long private one. The meals stop arriving, people stop asking, and you are expected to be back to normal at roughly the point it starts to feel worst. Grief counselling is somewhere the loss stays allowed, without a schedule attached to it.

What grief & loss counselling helps with

  • The death of a partner, parent, child, sibling, or friend
  • Anticipatory grief while someone is still dying
  • Miscarriage, stillbirth, and infertility
  • The end of a marriage or long relationship
  • Loss of health, independence, work, or identity
  • Grief that has resurfaced years later, or that never settled

What to expect

There is no correct sequence to move through and no point at which you should be finished. Sessions make room for whatever the grief actually is on that day, including anger, relief, guilt, and the days where nothing much surfaces at all. Some people come weekly for a while, others come around anniversaries and hard dates.

Questions about grief & loss counselling

It has been years. Is it too late for counselling?

No. Grief that was never given room does not expire, it waits. People often come years afterwards, sometimes because a second loss has reopened the first. That is a common and entirely reasonable reason to start.

What if I cannot stop crying in a session?

Then you cry, and the session holds it. You will not be rushed, managed, or asked to compose yourself. That is what the hour is for.

Can I bring a family member?

Yes. Grief is often shared unevenly within a family, and sessions with more than one person can help when everyone is grieving the same loss in very different ways.
